MEAP SCORE INFORMATION

The purpose of the MICHIGAN EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT PROGRAM (MEAP) is to provide information on the status and progress of Michigan essential skills education to the State Board of Education, the Executive Office, the Legislature, local educators, teachers, students, and parents.

A change in the format of MEAP testing, beginning in 1995-1996 requires 4th and 7th grade students to take the math and reading tests in the fall of the school year and 5th and 8th grade students to take the science test and the new writing test in the spring. High school students take a high school proficiency exam in all four areas in the spring of 11th grade. High school students who attain a proficiency ranking in all subjects qualify for a state endorsement on their locally issued diploma.

This report is furnished as ONE factor to consider when evaluating a school district. School districts and the people they serve are quite diverse. Citizens need to consider many other factors such as school staff, curriculum offered extra curricular activities, attitude of students, and commitment of parents when assessing a school district.
